DESOPADEC BILL: Ijaw host communities give oil firms 7-day ultimatum to quit

WARRI—IJAW host communities of flow stations and well heads in Diebiri Egbema, Gbaramatu, Iduwini, Ogbe-Ijoh, Ogulaghan and Kou Kingdoms, Delta State, weekend, gave oil companies operating in the state a seven-day ultimatum to vacate their personnel and contractors from their various Ijaw  territories, starting from today.
The host communities in a statement  by Sheriff Mulade (Gbaramatu) Forcados Timinini (Ogulagha) and others, called on the foreign embassies to advice their nationals to vacate their lands, as they would not guarantee their safety on the expiration of the ultimatum.
The seven-day ultimatum is a fallout of the disagreement between the host communities and the state government over the bill by the governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, to the state House of Assembly to amend the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC law.
