Army chief blows hot, says terrorists’ll not derail peace in North-East again

Chief Of Army Staf (COAS), Major General Tukur Buratai, has vowed to battle and subdue Boko Haram militants, assuring that the insurgents would no longer derail the peace in the North-East and the entire country.
This is even as the army chief has warned officers and soldiers that he would not tolerate any act of indiscipline or cowardice from them.
He, therefore, charged them to be more proactive and respond promptly to distress calls.
General Buratai, who had temporarily relocated to the North-East, had equally renamed the military operation in the North-East ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’, meaning compulsory peace.
The army boss, who gave the warning in a statement, said this had become necessary to send a strong and final warning to the terrorists group whom he said “can no longer derail the wheel of peace in the North-East or any part of Nigeria.”
Buratai, in the statement signed by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, commended troops for their resilience, bravery and dedication in the counter-insurgency war and enjoined them to take the initiative and be more proactive.
He assured the people of the North-East and other Nigerians of the determination of the Nigerian Army to successfully end Boko Haram’s terrorists’ activities.
He also charged the troops to do more by pursuing and destroying Boko Haram terrorists within the Rules of Engagement while assuring them of government’s support to provide necessary equipment and facilities needed to actualize the defeat of the insurgents.
