3 poly students, 5 others arrested for cultism, robbery in Ondo

Akure—THREE students of a polytechnic in Ondo State and five others have been arrested for alleged robbery and cult activities.
The suspected criminals were arrested with dangerous weapons including guns, knives and axes, among others, by police detectives in the state
Vanguard gathered in Akure that those arrested included Akinboun Blessing 21, of the Department of Public Administration, ND 11; Fasanu Tolulope 24, Business Administration, ND11, and Alabi Oluwaseun 26, Business Administration, ND ( PT 111).
Findings revealed that Fasanu confessed that he was initiated into secret cult in 2013 by one Temitope Adeyeye and others.
He has also, according to police source, confessed his involvement in various operations, including rape.
Items said to have been recovered from him included one short, locally-made gun, loaded cartridge, one dagger and one cutlass.
Police source hinted that Alabi confessed that he was initiated into the secret cult in 2013.
Items recovered from Alabi included one dagger, one bag containing one locally-made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun, one battle cutlass and two cartridges.
Vanguard gathered that Akinboun said he was initiated into the secret cult last year by one Lampard and four others.
He was alleged to have robbed students who lived off campus of their property, including laptops, ATM cards and also raped female students.
Contacted, the police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, said other suspects in police custody included Wale Ilori, 29; Abayomi Oluwafemi, 16; Eze Ogokwe, Taiwo Segun, 16 and Ifeanyi Obi.
Ogodo pointed out that Wale was initiated in 2010. He said  police recovered dangerous weapons from Abayomi, which include one UTC knife, one axe and one jack knife, among others.
He added that Eze was arrested for conspiracy and stealing. He was said to have conspired with others to steal some aluminium steel.
In the case of Ifeanyi, Ogodo said he was arrested for stealing, while Taiwo Segun was arrested over unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.
Ogodo said all the eight suspects would soon be charged to court after investigation.
